It's the frame and wheels that make the
difference! In order to properly fit women, particularly those
with shorter arms & torsos, TREK has built bikes with shorter top
tubes, taller stems and saddles designed for women, not men (what a
concept).
Finally you can have a comfortable and efficient
fit...no longer will you be so stretched out that you associate
riding a bike with pain! You'll ride further, faster, and more
enjoyably than ever before.
But not all women need, or even should have, these bikes. The
basic criteria is for women 5'7" or shorter, and especially
those with relatively short arms & torsos. If you're
taller than 5'7", or between 5'3" and 5'7" but with
relatively longer arms & torsos, fit will generally be better on
a conventional (unisex?) bike, probably with the stock handlebar
stem exchanged for one that features a taller rise and shorter
forward reach...along with a woman's saddle, of course.

This year TREK has
lowered the entry price for their WSD series of bikes with the 4500,
at just $459.99. This is a real mountain bike, not a toy, with
a custom-tuned RockShox Judy TT fork to smooth out the bumps
(instead of bounce off them, like you would on a guy's bike!),
lightweight aluminum frame, Shimano Deore rear derailleur and 24
speeds to take you up the nastiest climb!
